Work before play.
This one is really tough for me. Jay and I are opposite in this way. I am the free-spirit, fun-loving "we'll get to it later" spouse. Jay is the organized, neat & tidy spouse. I usually let chores go until they really start to bother me. I won't do laundry until I don't have socks left, or deep clean the house until it's a mess or we are having friends over. I think mostly this is because I work so much that when I'm home I want to be doing something fun with my husband and not doing housework. It drives my husband nuts when the house is messy and chores are left undone. He likes everything to be just so and is a very good cleaner & hard-worker. It took me awhile to figure him out and understand that responsibilites come before pleasure, and that this is very important. I need to get the chores done so Jay can have fun, because leaving them undone only heightens stress. He's not extreme-if there is clutter here and there around the house he'll let it go for awhile, but I can always tell he is making a conscious effort to be patient with me. I really need to brush up on my wife & home maker skills. We've found ourselves eating out frequently because we are tired, we don't have time to go to the grocery store, or we just want to get out of the house together. I know he would prefer to stay at home with a home cooked meal but sometimes it's. just. so. tough. And it's fun to get out together and enjoy a good meal together. We've been saving a lot of money too from not buying groceries. Anyways, I am making a vow that I will cook for him more next week, and I will check back in to let you know how it's going. I found a bunch of yummy recipes today that I am looking forward to trying!
Put responsibilites before pleasure.

Tuesday blues
Wow this one's been rough folks. long. frusterating. exhausting.
This weekend however? romantic. relaxing. hilarious. nothing short of amazing.
Why did Monday have to come???
Ok I'll leave the pity party for awhile...but I'm going right back after this post =)
Of course I forgot our camera at home today (a long with my coat, wallet, & good attitude) so you'll only be getting a few glimpses of our weekend from what I have on my CF card. *ok update, you aren't going to see anything for now because blogger won't upload my images. sweet. Friday we had the day off so we got to sleep in & lounge around until we felt like leaving. Around noon we headed for Osceola. We stopped at two wineries and tasted their goodness! Chateau St. Croix and Winehaven. Winehaven was definetly the best and we left with two delicious bottles.
After we checked into our bed & breakfast (amazing by the way!!) we went to the wine & cheese social hour. Only one other elderly couple were checked in so it was fun to talk with them & the inn-keeper to hear their story. Turns out they visited Portland this summer too so we had fun talking together. The rest of the weekend we basically relaxed, went hiking, went to some delicious 5 star restaurants, & fun pubs and laughed a lot. I forgot how much fun it is to have time to laugh. Seriously I forgot what it feels like to be able to sit and talk together for hours, laugh, & re-discover each other. I discovered (again) how funny my husband is. I think mostly he's just laughing at me but it's ok =) We were giggling the whole weekend! I didn't help that we brought the office season 1 with us (we had never seen it) and I swear every place we went we ran into those situations where you are literally biting your tongue to keep from bursting out loud.
Our room was right on the bluff overlooking the St. Croix & it was really scenic. We had a whirlpool that looked right onto the river. It was super romantic! We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfasts in the morning were so delicious and each night we had a freshly baked sweet snack to come home to. They treat you like the only couple in the inn!
Back to cold, hard reality!

Counting our blessings
Packing our bags.
Leaving in the morning.
Relaxing all weekend.
Coming home refreshed.
Counting our blessings tonight.
So excited to leave tomorrow. We are so blessed with salaried jobs so that we get paid to vacation =) It's so nice to know that we can take work off to enjoy ourselves and not have to worry about not making money. We've never experienced this before so it's pretty cool for us. We just got home from Aly's sections final game and they won so they are going to State-and are one more game away from going to the Dome! It was so exciting but we are super cold. It's brisk out there tonight! I hope everyone has a great weekend and we'll catch up later!!
A few more hours...
...and it's our weekend! ahhhhh, I thought this weekend would never come. It's been an especially long & stressful week already and I can't wait to get out of town for some R&R with my hubby. We have some very fun weekends coming up and I am so excited! Halloween is our next one!!
RFF: I have a sensory memory.
This is a very weird trait. The other day I was missing my sister & I could just picture what her cute little face felt like. It surprised me that I could remember it so distinctly- so then I tried my mom, my brother, and Jay. I could remember what all of their faces and hair felt like, and each of them different & unique textures. I touch Jay's face a lot, but I don't recall feeling up my mom, brother or sister's faces =) Is it because of years of looking at them? I found it very interesting. It made me happy. It's just like the sense of smell. I can pass a smell & pin point exactly what memory it brings me back to (like my Papa's woodshop, or my Bunny's sewing room, or my Mom's perfume). Or certain smells can evoke stong memories & emotions. I think the sense of smell is so incredible powerful. Yep, I'm weird.

Thoughts on Thursdays
Don't let anyone meddle.
I love that we have the first & last-final say in everything we do. For so long when we were young, we had to keep in mind what our parents wanted. It was really strange to move in together and really make our own decisions on everything. Our parents had one request of us-that we not live together before we married. Not a problem for us, neither of us wanted to. But living with your parents still puts certain restrictions and rules on your relationship no matter what. So the day we married was a very freeing feeling. Our first few weeks at home were like one big sleepover where your best friend never leaves. It was awesome.
Anyways, we have really learned how nice it is not to have (or let) our parents meddle in our relationship. My parents and my in-laws are both fantastic that way. I'm so relieved that there is absolutely no fighting over who will spend holidays with who, arguments over not spending enough time with one or the other, or even just everyday business. They have allowed us to be our own couple and support everything that we do. We've never had any issues with having to defend our own families or take sides. It's awesome. Not that they "meddled" when we were younger, they rightfully had a say in the matter, but they were still great. I talked with a friend yesterday that has very smoothering in laws & both sets of parents that demand time spent with them. She is also put in a position (quite often) where her husband is stuck between sticking up for his wife & sticking up for his mother. I totally feel for her-what a frusterating situation.
We decided early on that we would not let others run our relationship. It takes hard work to shape that kind of relationship, because you don't want to step on families toes. We are always on each other's side and don't allow situations to arise where we would have to choose sides between our family or our spouse. We never leave each other's side if a family argument arises (which is rare) and are a united front. We choose where we want to spend holidays without guilt. It helps that I have a husband who sometimes talks to (or texts!) my Mom more than I do on a daily basis. We are both so blessed that we have supportive families!
Don't let anyone turn you against each other.

Jay's debut!
Ground breaking news in the Feldkamp household tonight folks. The mac is up on running!!!! I came home to another great surprise after my wedding today (I could get used to these Saturday afternoon surprises!!) Jay had called our friend to help him get an editing program up and running for me & get us on wireless internet so I can edit anywhere. I was really surprised and thankful! (thanks Chris!!) But that's not the big news. Since we've got this sweet new laptop we are back to our college days of laying in bed with the computer in front of us. It is heavenly. Anyways, I asked Jay if he wanted to say anything on the blog tonight and to my surprise, he said yes! usually he loves to read what I write and has input but has never actually blogged. So here it is folks, Mr. Man's debut:
He got sick of it real fast so here I am again, boring old me =) Since he doesn't have a lot of experience blogging & doesn't write much it kind of sounds like a love note to me! but hey, I give him credit for blogging and he's got to start somewhere!!! Ok off to bed, I have another busy day tomorrow and I need to rest up for the Vikes!!!!!

Happy Thursday.
I love it when it snows while I'm at work. I work on the 39th floor so all I see is the Minneapolis/St. Paul skyline and snow swirling by. It's so beautiful. I am up so high that the snow swirls up because of the draft through the tall buildings, and it looks like we are in a big snowglobe! I'm almost about ready to break out my Christmas pandora mix at work =)
Last night I had a fun engagement session and then a date with my hubby. We figured out what we want to be for halloween and we found everything we were looking for last night so that was really fun and got us excited. I'm not supposed to say what we are dressing up as so you'll just have to be surprised...I will tell you that it's super nerdy and it will be funny!!! I'm tired today because last night was another late night. Jay is super ticklish. If I catch him in a ticklish mood it's sooooo funny, because I can't touch him without him uncontrollably laughing. Then he gets me giggling and it's out of control. Of course I egg him on by trying to make him laugh!! I love it because he thinks everything I say is funny when he's in that mood. We had quite the half hour fit last night. I just love nights like those when we are laughing together about stupid stuff.
Tonight I was invited to an event hosted by the knot.com and I am excited! It is invitation only so I felt honored to be invited. Hopefully it will be a good networking event and I will meet some new faces. After the event Jay and I are getting together to catch up over a yummy mexican dinner. Next week is our vacation so we are both really looking forward to that! This weekend is super busy for me so I'm actually looking forward to next week when I get some time off work =) I can't believe it's already Thursday!

Admit when you're wrong.
So simple but so challenging for me. I'll be the first to admit that I'm stubborn. I get it from my Papa. In the moment when an issue arrises it's so easy to point the finger at someone else. My hubby is really even-keeled and good at looking at situations rationally. I am the opposite, when I get fired up it's hard for me to think rationally because I'm usually caught up in emotion. We find that most arguments that don't dissolve on their own are due to some kind of pointing the blame instead of owning up to our own actions or admitting we were wrong. Sometimes I need to take a few seconds to think about it, because usually when I'm upset I automatically think I am right because I want to be right. If I look back at some arguments after the fact it's actually funny to hear the points I was trying to argue =) we usually end up laughing about it. We don't argue much but when we do I'm the feisty one. I bet not many of you knew that about me! I've gotten a lot better just by living with my husband. I admire him in so many ways. I wish I was more like him!
Own up to your actions & move on.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
With the snow that's been falling =) I don't really mind it. I think I've finally gotten over the idea that complaining about Minnesota's weather all the time won't change it. Seriously, Minnesota weather is ridiculous!! but, I can't change it so I might as well enjoy it right? It sure was pretty (if not shocking!) waking up to it the other morning. It just makes us soooo excited for Christmas. What a great time of the year, and we have so much to look forward to this winter season. I don't think I could ever spend a Christmas without snow.
We had a great weekend!! Friday night we spent with my in-laws watching another disappointing Twins game....but the fellowship was fun and seeing the family is great. Vonn cooked some really good food & appetizers and Mike & Cindy even came and we were really happy to see them. Jon, Kelly & Bman were there too. We need to spend more Friday nights like that!! Saturday morning we headed to Applebees for the soccer teams pancake breakfast with my Mom. I had to run to a wedding in the afternoon & I was really happy with how it turned out. Saturday night we layed on the couch together and watched the Gator football game. It felt amazing just to relax together and do nothing. Sunday I had a newborn session & I got to meet Ryder!!! and visit with Krystal =) He is soooo cute and I will post some pictures of their adorable family soon. Jay called me on the way home to tell me he had a surprise for me. I came home to a cute little bouquet of roses with river rock in the bottom of the vase and a box of chocolates. He also had a delicious barbecue pork tenderloin lunch ready for me, complete with baked potatoes and a sour cream & ranch pasta salad! (my husband is an amazing cook)....lucky me! He said he wanted to thank me because I've been working so much. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness!

Of course the day would not be complete without a Vikings victory!!! We were lazy the rest of the day and enjoyed just being home together. It was a really great weekend.

Thoughts on Thursdays
Sorry for not posting this yesterday, I started it and then the day got crazy and the night busy...so here it is today =)
Expectations on your relationship
Throw them out the window. They only set you up for failure and disappointment. For example, before we got married I had this awesome idea of what marriage would be like. {Imagine, laughing and happiness and fun all the time} My idea came to a screeching halt once we left the altar ;) But in my defense, before you get married you never really know what marriage is about. What you do know you learn from your parents, or from the movies. In my case, both of said examples were extreme to say the least, and neither a good model of a normal marriage. And you only really get to see marriage at surface level (especially on tv). The reality is that marriage is very hard! that's not saying that it's not worth it, but we had to get rid of our expectations in order to become a thriving couple. Marriage comes with fighting {gasp!} occasional unhappiness, and other things that you would never put into your ideal perfect relationship. Get over it. Move on. And work hard at it. Once we stopped expecting ourselves to be "perfect" we got through some bumps with not too many bruises and found our groove as a couple.
Let go of expectations & be yourself!

Inspiration.
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can somehow become great.

Book reviews
The reader is weird don't read it. I read it because I heard it was a controversal book & a golden globe winning movie. I never saw the movie but I picked up the book and thank goodness I only paid $1.99 for it. I didn't know what it was about but everyone was making such a big deal about the movie that I thought I would check it out. I should have known because golden globe nominations are usually for strange movies. But, sometimes I like to watch them to stay cultured. Plus, if I have a feel for what the critics like it gives me an edge on beating Jay in picking golden globe winners ;)
Dragonfly in amber=much much better! I liked this one better than Outlander (it's 2nd in the Outlander series) I still don't like parts of her writing & style but it kept me on the edge of my seat and ended with a huge cliff hanger. Parts of the middle were slow but I read fast through them & the story is getting more complex & interesting. I just love the kind of books that make you want to run to the store as soon as you finish one to pick up the next....and these are totally it! I'm already onto book three.

TODAY is the day that I get my mac!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding. I'm only blogging that in hopes that my hubby will read this & then let me purchase today in fear of not wanting to squash my excitement =) ok, so. Today is the day we look at the apple store & gain insight on all the amazingness that apple has to offer. {patience is a virtue???!!}
Here are a few favorite pictures from our fall shoot.

We rode tandem bicycles, tackled each other in football, did some goofy dances & smashed ice cream in each others faces. We had fun!! We'll share more later. Off to a date with my handsome hubby!!!!!

Game time!
We're having a big old fashioned football party. So excited for the work day to be over so I can head to Mom's and prepare the food & start the festivities! I love having something to look forward to during the week & especially Monday night. Fun family time.
We had a fun weekend full of friends, family and sports! what a perfect combination. Another one of my friends, Krystal had her baby early this weekend right before her birthday. What a great birthday present!! She wasn't due until later this month so I think she was relieved to have him early. I am so happy for them. She named him Ryder =) We hung out with friends on Friday and Saturday and had a great time. I forgot to bring my camera to work today so I will post pictures later. Actually, my hubby took it out of my purse to take to the Twins game yesterday & never put it back so I will blame it on him ;)
I had a very long (but fun) weekend of photography because I am packing sessions in to get Christmas card sessions done for my families. I was super tired on Saturday night and I came home and checked the mail and I received a nice surprise-a letter with a giftcard in it from a friend I did a session for. It was really sweet and made me smile. It's always nice to feel appreciated isn't it!!! It made me not as tired & got me motivated to get in and edit away!!! Jay went to the Twins game Sunday and I had a few sessions and then edited all. day. long. It was really nice to get things done without any distractions!!!
My best news from the weekend: I'm getting a new laptop for work. Yes, this beauty will be mine soon. I am so pumped! This will make editing/portable editing 1,000 million billion times better. It comes with programs that will enhance my photography business and make everything so much easier. It's faster, smarter, more durable, is friendly to the artistic person & it's just plain prettier =) Jay is going to take me to the apple store one night this week to get her. Must. have. it. !!

Congratulations!
Just wanted to congratulate our friends Emily & Colin because they are now proud parents =) They just had a son they named Jay (nice choice guys!! ;)
That makes me feel old! I'm so happy for them and their new life that lies ahead. I've totally got baby fever and want a baby so bad! {please Lord give us patience as we wait until we are ready!!!} It's SO hard to wait for some things in life =) But I know the time will come when we will be completely prepared and ready to expand our little family. Until then.....I'll just live through my friends lives that do have bundles of joy. Hope you are doing well Em!!!

Thoughts on Thursdays
Put your spouse first.
I've been trying to get our wedding video online for a good few months now {obviously, and frusteratingly enough it hasn't happened yet} but-in the process of attempting this I've viewed it several times while downloading. There is a statement that the Pastor shares with the congregation that Jay had shared with him that gets me every time. He shared that he always puts my needs before his, and when my needs are met then his needs are also fulfilled. He explains that he gets his happiness from creating mine.
I really thought about it and he is a man of his word. He ALWAYS puts me before himself and is selfless in so many ways. I know that I will never go without, with him. I also think he is very wise, because it's true- when I make others happy {helping them out, giving compliments, doing favors, giving gifts, etc.} it always makes me happy. There is just something about spreading happiness that is contagious! I need to focus on doing the same for him-not only appreciating this way of life he has made for us, but also putting him before me....not just sometimes, but every time. My husband is a wise, gentle & humble servant of the Lord. I am so blessed.
Fulfill the needs of your spouse first.
